Routes from Olbia
Olbia is to the Costa Smeralda like the Statue of Liberty in New York.
Landing at Olbia airport will make you experience what is proverbial in the imagination of all of us: white beaches, crystal clear sea, luxury, spectacular villas, nightlife
and dream boats.
The smell of the sea, beaches and cliffs, lush nature and the beauty of a genuine and peasant hinterland. Once off your flight, and it doesn't matter whether it's summer or
winter, Olbia will open up to your eyes, giving you what you have just flown over.
Before leaving for the north of Sardinia with your rental car, it is absolutely worthwhile to pay a visit to the town that will welcome you warmly among the bars and cafes of
Piazza Matteotti and Corso Umberto. Take a look at the mediaeval Basilica of San Simplicio, next to the Olbia railway station,
a structure with an austere and essential charm that hides an interesting early Christian necropolis in its basement.
Sardinia is an ancient land and you can find evidence of it in the archaeological museum of Olbia, a site that offers ample and attractive evidence of the numerous stratifications
of eras and peoples from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. You can admire the remains of Punic ships demonstrating the flourishing businesses already in that age. Just outside
the city go to visit the Nuraghi, ancient buildings typical of the Sardinian territory: we suggest the Nuraghe Riu Mulinu, a site where you will come into contact
with the grandeur and solidity of the prehistoric buildings and which will give you an unmissable and breath-taking panorama of the gulf.
Outside the city
Here, on a sparkling plate between the morning glint of the sea and the strobe lights of the nightlife, the Costa Smeralda.
Head north, towards Gallura, and get your eyes set for the most beautiful sea you've ever seen, amazing panoramas, villas and marinas worthy of the wealthiest
emirs in the world. So, start your initiatory journey by heading towards Golfo Aranci and you will find a series of beaches, free or equipped, of fine white sand
immersed in unspoiled nature. Here everything is pleasant, between the colourful houses of the village and the fresh local cuisine. Further north you will meet Porto
Rotondo, twin queen, for luxury, charm and social life of the nearby Porto Cervo. Founded in the early 1960s, the town owes its origin to a consortium of Venetian
entrepreneurs, who architecturally reproduced the features of a small Venice. Famous is Piazza San Marco, the heart of local life full of bars and restaurants. Further on, still
towards the northbound, here is the magical Porto Cervo, a symbol of the Costa Smeralda and stunning for its sumptuous excesses: exclusive clubs, huge yachts,
starred restaurants in a dreamlike atmosphere. Here, every single cove is a real wonder, transparent water that resembles an immense natural swimming pool. Keep going up and you
will get in front of the Maddalena archipelago, a riot of islets from the Caribbean sea with the famous pink beach of Budelli, and then straight
towards Santa Teresa di Gallura. The town, larger and more structured, offers tourist solutions suitable for every visitor. You are right in front of the
Strait of Bonifacio and the opposite of Corsica. The sea, blue and crystalline, is the main attraction but it is also worth mentioning the local cuisine: let yourself
be delighted by the Indattari Olbiesi, a tasty Mussel soup, or the Gallurese soup, a rustic first course based on stale bread and cheese. Do not miss the Sardinian porceddu,
the suckling pig cooked on a spit, which is the regional dish par excellence. And to drink? Vermentino di Gallura is a must, a sip of authentic Sardinia in a glass!
