The entrepreneurial journey of Sicily by Car has now become a university case study: with 60 years of history and a continuously upward trajectory, the company stands as a milestone in the Sicilian business landscape.
Founded in 1963 from an idea by Tommaso Dragotto, the current Chairman, the car rental company literally made its way among the industry’s major players starting from the ground up — not only geographically, but also structurally: in the beginning, just one car and one office. Gradual and steady growth, however, has turned it into one of the market’s leading players today.
With over 50 offices in Italy, a fleet of 13,000 vehicles, and a presence in France, Austria, Poland, and Montenegro through co-branded partnerships, the company took a major step on August 3rd by entering Palazzo Mezzanotte and going public on the Euronext Growth Milan stock exchange.
Sicily by Car's “new deal” — having achieved the highest profitability among major competitors in 2022 — brings together its new strategy of expansion, green mobility, and full-spectrum market positioning.
The company is betting on four key strengths for the future:
- Consolidation and expansion of the national office network
- Expansion plan in Europe under the SBC Europe brand
- Strengthening of the ESG strategy
- Transition to the main market of Borsa Italiana
“If foresight has been the guiding light of Sicily by Car-s development over the years, today the company is moving into a much more structured and strategic phase of growth,” said President Dragotto. “We’ve reached a major milestone that allows us to look ahead with increasingly ambitious projects, supported by strong financial stability and a management team with unmatched expertise in the industry. Sicily by Car’s credibility is demonstrated by the results we’ve achieved and our longevity, marked by undeniable successes.”
The company recently shared its year-end forecasts for 2023, announcing an EBITDA between €47 million and €49 million, and an expected consolidated net profit in the range of €19 million to €21 million.
To celebrate an “unprecedented” year, Sicily by Car has organized a major invitation-only event on December 18th at the Teatro Massimo, open to stakeholders, the financial community, and all company collaborators, both in Italy and abroad.
This moment marks the crowning of 60 years of dedicated effort and is intended to lay the groundwork for facing the challenges of 2024 with renewed energy.
